Daria Mussienko
Daria's work is of the kind that beats you in the gut. Her lines are so energetic and dynamic that you would sell your soul to get her hand to be attached to your wrist instead. At least, I would! Academically trained, she's found her way into drawing on a highly personal note.
Daria Mussienko was getting her BFA in illustration at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco before transferring to a school in Tokyo to pursue a degree in art conservation.
After graduating, she began working in the conservation field at an art restoration studio, where she primarily worked on Japanese oil paintings and works on paper, but shortly after decided to shift her focus to her artistic practice.
With the support of family and friends and after two years of struggling, she's been able to become a full-time illustrator in Tokyo.
I was alerted of Daria's work first by my friend Adrian Hogan, I believe. We are always so happy to find inspiring people in Tokyo, and Daria didn't disappoint. Incredibly young and unbelievably talented, she became a good friend to meet for coffee and drawing.
