Welcome to my garden.
I am Luis Mendo, a Spanish artist and author based in Tokyo. I've built this place to publish my stories without constrains. Later on I plan to make books with them.
MundoMendo is an independent publication platform, launched on October 1st, 2024. It’s both a way for fans to support my work and it provides a safe space for me to share what I truly want to be making. I have designed and drawn for many clients; beautified other people's ideas and projects for 30 years. It's time for me to give life to my own.
The MundoMendo Book series
For now online only. But once I have collected enough, the best will be bundled into a book series. Although now it's early to decide how those will look like, I am thinking of small volumes that would fit into a box set, holding and protecting them dearly. Bold Members get 20% discount on these too.

Every time I upload a new story, your inbox will let you know. Bye algorithms and oppressive ‘social’ feeds. Also, no more doomscrolling to find something you like. It's like reading a book that keeps getting thicker.
You can expect about a couple of emails per month.
Striking a POSSE
In order to stay independent and be free from the grip of social media silos, this site is built around the POSSE —publish on your site, syndicate elsewhere— model. Mandy Brown has a good piece about her approach to this, which I share and encourage others to consider.

With MundoMendo I am hoping to show others that there's alternative ways to share our work while feeding our kids, instead of the super rich.
No more food for the bros
By sharing my work on this website, I am stepping out of the tech billionaire owned machines. This site runs on Ghost, which is a non-profit organization. They are open source, independent, and funded 100% by its users. No investors and no bullshit.
Hiding things behind a paywall you have some protection against AI bots stealing your work too
For the happy few
MundoMendo is made only for a handful of fans. Sure it’s just a tiny group, but at least I know I can count on their eyes and their hearts.
The value of what I make
With MundoMendo I would like to give extra value to the stories; by offering a reading experience outside the available, readers do not scroll brainlessly but rejoice looking at things longer. Hopefully inspiring them, making them think about better worlds.
Honoring the craft
I have been involved with magazines, periodicals and media for all my 30+ years of professional life. But always I have been cooking at someone else’s restaurant and now I want to have my own place, the one where I get to decide everything: from the logo to the menu to the music and the lamps on the tables.
That place is called MundoMendo.
While this site is alive, I will put most of my labour, time and love into making it better. Otherwise I shall stop.
